New Piano Student
I have a 6 year old i'm starting lessons with today. She's pretty talented on the piano, already playing with both hands even though She's only had lessons about a year. I often wonder, why some young ones can progress so fast on the piano, while others do not. Aside from learning disabilities, why do some students develop the hand-eye coordination so much faster than others?
Your thoughts?

I have read before that the artistic and logic capability of every individual depends on how our brain has been developed. Some experts also stated some hereditary aspects. I still don't know the complete information but I believe this affects the progress of our students.

I am not sure if this will help at all, but I think that the whole nature vs. nurture thing has much to due with this topic. I think that it really depends on the childs environment. If the child is being stimulated daily, the child will probably be more likely to handle larger chalenges than if they were surrounded by lower standards than this. I always hold my students to the highest regard. I am never too harsh about it, but I usually start my beginning students out with a much higher standard than others. Therefore, they are prone to succeed at a more rapid pace. I just make sure to tell them that the communication lines between instructor and student are very important and they should always share their thoughts and feelings with me about being overwhelmed if this is what could be going on with them. It is important for a student to be comfortable no matter what is going on. This also helps the situation.
